My Story

Hi! I'm Alex Angelidis-Smith, and currently I live in Munich, Germany, but I come from California. My experience with ptosis is very brief; the last time I had an operation regarding it was during the 6th grade (at that time I was currently living in California). Overall, the impact ptosis had for me wasn't as significant as it could be for others. I was really active when I had ptosis, and still am, participating in school sports and extracurriculars many times every week: such soccer, piano, and even saxophone! After having two surgeries I rarely notice an impact; I was still able to live a fulfilling life while experiencing my symptoms. Currently, I almost never notice any effects from the condition. At just two years old, John underwent surgery to correct ptosis. He has no recollection of the procedure at all, due to his young age. John's surgery took place in the mid-1940's, and because of the lack of knowledge of ptosis surgery back then, doctors inserted a wire to lift up his eyelid, partially sticking out of his forehead. In the end, the operation was successful; his daily activities remain completely unaffected even though he still retains some of his ptosis.
