Who am I?

Hi! I'm Alex Angelidis-Smith, and currently I live in Munich, Germany, but I come from California. My experience with ptosis mainly occured during my childhood; the last time I had an operation regarding it was during the 6th grade (at that time I was currently living in California). I was really active when I had ptosis, and still am, participating in school sports and extracurriculars many times every week: such soccer, piano, and even saxophone! After having two surgeries I rarely notice an impact; I was still able to live a fulfilling life while experiencing my symptoms. Currently, I almost never notice any effects from the condition. However, I sometimes wear sports glasses to protect my eyes, but that has never affected my playstyle at all.

One challenge that I had with my ptosis was that after my first surgery, the material holding up my eyelid failed, and I had to get a second operation. After that, my left eye (the one with more severe ptosis) remained droopy until my last operation. One of the most concerned things about my surgery was after it was done my eyelid was super elevated, stretching to my eyebrow. If anything however, that is a good sign because over the next few weeks the eyelid lowers itself and sets, due to the reduction of the swelling overtime. So don't fret!

Why did I do this?

To help others. The answer is that simple.

The entire purpose of Ptosis-Perfect is to help other people through various ways. May it be from our blog/newsletter, community outreach, or personal stories, we provide valuable resources and a supportive network for current and veteran ptosis patients.

One thing that would have made my journey through ptosis so much easier would be if I had a community to talk to. Someone to share my anxieties with and to ask for advice would have been so helpful. I could have learned from their journey with ptosis and gained valuable information, such as which doctors to consult, which would have reduced the amount of stress involved in addressing my ptosis.

The Impact

I hope to make a positive impact on the lives of those with ptosis- but how?

I first plan to reach out to doctors and patients to create a community, gathering their stories and journeys with ptosis to help those that are just starting theirs.

By taking advice from doctors and veterans' stories, I can publish useful information for anyone impacted by a ptosis diagnosis. I hope that this community will help guide patients and families along their journey with ptosis.

In order to create this community it is vital to have a safe space for patients to share their stories- and that is where Ptosis-Perfect comes in, and how you can help.
